Mindset Prep vs Pluralsight: ISO 27001 exam preparation compared

These two products are not really competitors, and pretending otherwise would waste your time. Pluralsight teaches you what ISO 27001 is - their main course does it in under an hour of video, with a longer 2h20m companion course alongside it. Mindset Prep prepares you to sit an ISO exam, with scenario questions, clause-cited rationales and mock exams. Pluralsight teaches; Mindset Prep tests. They sit at different stages of the same path, and the honest answer for a lot of candidates is that you want both.

The short answer

If you have a certification exam booked, a 56-minute video course will not get you through it. If you have never met the standard before, a 56-minute video course is a very efficient way to meet it.

Pluralsight is a large technical skills platform: cloud, software development, IT operations, security. Their ISO 27001 content sits inside that catalogue as instructional video. It is well made and it does what it says. Nothing in their published ISO 27001 listing is exam preparation for an ISO certification: no ISO practice exam or mock is listed in their certification-prep catalogue, and the course pages show video modules only. That is the gap Mindset Prep fills.

What Pluralsight's ISO 27001 content actually covers

Their main dedicated ISO 27001 course is "Security Compliance: ISO 27001" by Richard Harpur. It is listed at 56 minutes and was last updated in March 2023. It is video only.

The published module breakdown:

  • Course Overview 1m
  • Understanding the ISO 27001 Standard 21m
  • Getting ISO Certified 11m
  • Understanding the Security Controls of ISO 27001 13m
  • Using the ISO 27002 Implementation Guidance 8m

Pluralsight also publishes a longer companion course, "ISO/IEC 27001 Information Security: The Big Picture", at roughly 2 hours 20 minutes and last updated in May 2023, plus content on the wider ISO 27000 series and a Governance, Risk and Compliance path. Taken together that is a solid grounding in what the standard requires and how organisational certification works.

None of it is built to get an individual through a Lead Auditor or Lead Implementer exam. That is not a criticism, it is a category difference. Pluralsight's ISO content is aimed at engineers and cloud teams who need to understand ISO 27001 as context for their day job, not at candidates sitting a personnel-certification exam next month.

Pluralsight course lengths, authors, module splits, last-updated dates and list pricing were checked against pluralsight.com on 13 July 2026. We could not find a dedicated ISO 42001 or ISO 31000 course in their catalogue on that date. Catalogues change - check pluralsight.com directly if a specific course is your deciding factor.

Where Mindset Prep takes over

Mindset Prep is purpose-built for the exam itself. The adaptive selector, the clause-cited rationales, the AI Coach and the mock-exam mode are all tuned for what a Lead Auditor or Lead Implementer marker is actually looking for.

If you are sitting ISO 27001 Lead Auditor, ISO 27001 Lead Implementer, ISO 42001 Lead Auditor, ISO 42001 Lead Implementer, or ISO 31000 Risk Manager, this is the system to use.

We are not a generalist tech-skills platform with ISO bolted on. The 2,500+ questions, the trap patterns and the clause-citation discipline are all written for the ISO exams we cover. That focus is the trade: you give up the cloud and developer catalogue, and you get clause-level exam preparation you cannot get from a course-style generalist tool.

Practice model: adaptive selection

Mindset Prep is adaptive. The selector reads what you have answered correctly, where you have plateaued, and what you have not seen in a while, then chooses the next question to maximise mastery growth.

A video course cannot do this, by construction. Video is linear: it plays the same 56 minutes in the same order for every viewer, whether you already run an ISMS for a living or have never opened the standard. That is fine for orientation. It is the wrong shape for the last three weeks before an exam, when what you need is more time on the clauses you keep getting wrong and less on the ones you have already banked.

Explanations: clause-cited, not narrated

Mindset Prep wrong-option explanations cite the ISO clause they draw from. Course narration gives you the standard's meaning. Clause-cited rationales give you the marker's vocabulary. The exam is marked on the latter.

Standards we cite in rationales include:

ISO/IEC 27001:2022 ISO/IEC 27002:2022 ISO/IEC 42001:2023 ISO 31000:2018 ISO 19011:2018

Pricing

Mindset Prep is US$24.99/month, or US$199.99/year. 3-day full-access trial with card up front. The free per-exam practice question pages need no card and no signup.

Pluralsight publishes individual plan pricing on their site. When we checked on 13 July 2026, their individual plans ran from USD $30/month (Core Tech, or USD $252/year billed annually) up to USD $55/month for the Complete plan (USD $468/year), with the ISO 27001 courses bundled into the subscription rather than sold separately.

We are deliberately not going to tell you which is "cheaper". The currencies differ, the products differ, and the two subscriptions buy fundamentally different things: one buys a technical course library, the other buys exam preparation for a specific ISO certification. A price comparison between them would be a comparison between a gym membership and a physiotherapist. If you need both, budget for both.

Looking at this because the alternative was a free PDF you found online? Read the honest alternative to ISO 27001 exam dumps first - dumps are the wrong shortcut for an applied-judgement exam, and using one can invalidate your certification.

Which one should you pick?

Pick Pluralsight if you want to learn ISO 27001 alongside other tech skills

  • You are on a cloud, DevOps or security engineering team and need ISO 27001 as context, not as a certification.
  • You want the standard explained in an hour, by a practitioner, in video.
  • You are already paying for the platform for its cloud and developer catalogue.

Pick Mindset Prep if you are sitting an ISO exam

  • You have a date booked for Lead Auditor, Lead Implementer, or ISO 31000 Risk Manager.
  • You want scenario questions and clause-cited rationales rather than course narration.
  • You want adaptive practice and timed mock exams that mirror the real exam format.

Pick both if you are new to ISO and preparing for an exam

This is the honest recommendation for a lot of candidates. Use Pluralsight's hour-long course as orientation so the vocabulary stops being foreign. Then use Mindset Prep for the exam-prep depth: the scenarios, the traps, the clause citations, the mocks. Orient, then drill, then sit.

Pick your exam

Each page walks the exam format, the syllabus, the cert-body nuances, and the clauses you have to know.

Frequently asked questions

Does Pluralsight have ISO 27001 exam prep?

Not in the exam-prep sense. Pluralsight has several ISO 27001 courses that teach the standard - what an ISMS is, how the clauses are structured, how certification works. Their published ISO 27001 listings are video modules only. No ISO practice exam, Skill IQ or exam-format mock appears in Pluralsight's certification-prep catalogue, which covers AWS, Azure, CompTIA and ISC2 credentials rather than ISO ones. If your goal is to pass a Lead Auditor or Lead Implementer exam, the course is orientation and the exam prep is a separate step.

How long is Pluralsight’s ISO 27001 course?

Their course “Security Compliance: ISO 27001” by Richard Harpur is listed at 56 minutes, last updated March 2023. It is split into a short overview plus four modules: understanding the standard (21m), getting ISO certified (11m), understanding the security controls (13m), and using the ISO 27002 implementation guidance (8m). Pluralsight also lists a longer course, “ISO/IEC 27001 Information Security: The Big Picture”, at about 2 hours 20 minutes.

Does Pluralsight cover ISO 42001 or ISO 31000?

We could not find a dedicated ISO 42001 or ISO 31000 course in Pluralsight’s catalogue when we checked on 13 July 2026, and no ISO 42001 or ISO 31000 exam prep. ISO 42001 appears in their written blog content rather than as a course. ISO 31000 is covered as one framework inside their Risk Assessment and Management course rather than as a course of its own. Their dedicated ISO course coverage is concentrated on the ISO 27000 series. Catalogues change, so check pluralsight.com directly if this is the deciding factor for you.

Can I use Pluralsight and Mindset Prep together?

Yes, and if you are new to ISO that is the sequence we would suggest. Pluralsight orients you on what the standard says. Mindset Prep gets you exam-ready with scenario questions, clause-cited rationales, adaptive practice and mock exams. The two stages compound rather than overlap.
